OUTSOURCED computer operators of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) staged a protest on Thursday over non payment of salaries and other pending demands. The employees stopped work and raised slogans inside the JMC headquarters, alleging that they have not been receiving their salaries on time. The protesting employees said delayed payments have pushed them into financial hardship. They claimed that for the past eight months, salaries have been paid with a delay of one to two months. They also alleged that salaries for work done after April are yet to be released. The strike affected work in several departments of the Municipal Corporation.

 

Citizens visiting the office for services such as certificates, tax payments and other civic work also faced inconvenience. The employees further alleged that their Provident Fund (PF) has not been deposited for the last six months. They also said that the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) contribution has been pending for more than a year. Getting information about the protest, a number of public representatives reached the spot and heard the grievances of the employees. They assured them of holding discussion with JMC administration. Meanwhile, senior officials also reached the site and held talk with the agitated outsourced employees. The strike was withdrawn after officials assured the employees that their pending issues would be addressed.
