THE Raipur district administration launched rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas of Arang and Abhanpur development blocks after rising water levels in the Mahanadi River inundated low-lying villages. Acting on the directions of Collector Gaurav Singh, officials evacuated affected residents to safer locations and arranged food, shelter and medical assistance. In Nisda village of Arang development block, floodwaters surrounded several houses, leaving residents stranded. Rescue teams reached the village and safely shifted 48 people from 13 affected families to a relief centre established in a Public Distribution System (PDS) building. The administration arranged ration supplies and other essential items for the displaced families, while a team from the Health Department conducted medical check-ups at the relief centre.

 

Officials said the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will continue providing necessary assistance to the affected families. The rescue operation involved police personnel, officials from the district administration, the health department and members of the rescue team. Meanwhile, flood conditions also affected the Gobra-Navapara area of Abhanpur development block, prompting the administration to initiate emergency relief measures. The affected families were shifted to safe locations, where arrangements were made for food, essential supplies and other basic facilities. Officials from Revenue Department coordinated relief distribution, while the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad assisted in providing temporary accommodation for the displaced families. The district administration has appealed to people to avoid visiting rivers and streams during the monsoon, follow official advisories and immediately move to safer places if flood conditions develop.
