Govt reclaims 39 idle MIDC plots in Nagpur Division for fresh industrial investment
Staff Reporter :
“Maharashtra Government has reclaimed 39 unused industrial land parcels across Nagpur Division and put them up for fresh allotment to entrepreneurs, as it moves to unlock idle industrial land and revive investment in the region,” stated Uday Samant, Minister of Industries, in the State legislature on Friday.
Replying to a starred question in the Legislative Council, Uday Samant said the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has resumed possession of nine plots in Hingna and 30 in Butibori after the allottees failed to commence industrial operations. The reclaimed plots have been listed on MIDC’s Milaap portal for reallotment.
The Minister was responding to a question raised by Abhijit Wanjari, Dr Parinay Fuke, Pravin Darekar and other Members of Legislative Council.
The Government also disclosed that 153 industrial units spread across Hingna and Butibori remain closed, occupying around 270 acres of industrial land. Across Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara and Gondia districts, 301 allotted plots have industries that are either closed due to financial constraints, litigation or other reasons.
MIDC has issued notices to all such plot holders directing them to revive their units.
Where industries fail to resume operations,
the Corporation is proceeding to resume possession of the land under its policy.
Responding to allegations of unauthorised transactions, Samant said MIDC does not permit direct sale of industrial plots. However, transfers or leases are allowed only after obtaining MIDC’s approval under its prescribed policy.
The issue has assumed significance as elected representatives argued that large tracts of industrial land have remained locked in non-functional units for years, restricting availability of land for new investors and affecting industrial growth and employment generation in the Nagpur region.
