‘E-Samvad’ for seniors and divyangs mooted

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will hold citizens’ grievances redressal days across all its zones to make municipal administration more transparent, dynamic, and public-oriented. Conceptualised by Mayor Neeta Thakre and guided by Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar, this initiative will be conducted on the second and fourth Friday of every month. Prominent civic leaders, including Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare, and Ruling Party Leader Narendra (Balya) Borkar, have spearheaded this programmatic launch.

‘The Hitavada’ has been raising the issue about lack of direct contact of public representatives with people consistently. According to an official circular issued by Dr Itankar, Zonal Assistant Commissioners must remain present from 10 am to 1 pm on these designated Fridays to resolve public issues immediately. Wards are mandated to maintain an independent register to log offline and online complaints, map pending cases, track unresolved bottlenecks, and submit detailed monthly reviews to the General Administration Department.

Developing ‘E-Samvad’ and QR facilities

Recognising that elderly citizens and specially-abled individuals (Divyangs) may face extreme logistical constraints visiting ward headquarters physically, the NMC is introducing virtual entry doors. The Commissioner has ordered the Information Technology Wing to urgently develop an ‘E-Samvad’ system alongside localised QR-code modules. This digital platform will allow vulnerable or immobile complainants to seamlessly register complaints and attend redressal hearings via secure online channels.

NMC to host ‘Lokshahi Din’ on July 6

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will host its monthly ‘Lokshahi Din’ (Democracy Day) on July 6. Organised in accordance with the Government of Maharashtra’s resolution dated December 30, 1999, the initiative is held on the first Monday of every month to provide citizens with a dedicated institutional platform for swift redressal and resolution of public grievances. The upcoming session will be held at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Standing Committee Hall at NMC Headquarters in Civil Lines. In alignment with recent directives issued by the Divisional Commissioner of Nagpur Division, this session will place a special focus on resolving pending public complaints transferred from the divisional level alongside the direct applications received by the municipal corporation.
