India needs more growth engine

Highlighting the huge disparity in economic conditions of various districts of the country, Founder of the Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME) Ravi Venkatesan, on Saturday said that India should focus on mass entrepreneurship at district level. “Innovation and growth are concentrated in just a few wealthy districts while the majority of them remain underdeveloped. To see India’s real growth, we need many such districts that could serve as growth engines,” he said. Ravi Venkatesan was speaking at the special function jointly organised by the GAME, Nagpur Entrepreneurship Mission (NEM), Nagpur Chapter of TiE, IIM Nagpur and InFED (IIMN Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development) to celebrate the achievements of Nagpur Entrepreneurship Mission, a district-level initiative designed to accelerate MSME growth and enterprise creation across the Vidarbha region. The initiative has recently completed its 18-month journey. Ketul Acharya, President of GAME; Shashikant Chaudhary, NEM Crore Group Member; Sameer Bendre, President of TiE Nagpur; and others were also present. The dignitaries also released a book highlighting various initiatives of the mission held in Nagpur. Venkatesan further said that AI is transforming entrepreneurship. “Companies will increase their production but it will happen without additional manpower. In this era, traditional pathways will not work. The new generation will have to adopt new ways to survive,” he observed. Venkatesan emphasised on creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem at grass root levels. Earlier in his introductory remarks, Ketul Acharya spoke about various activities of GAME. He said GAME works on transforming local districts into vibrant hubs by connecting Government, the private sector, and other stakeholders to boost growth of MSMEs and start ups. “GAME is also creating platforms where entrepreneurs, mentors, and investors can come together to exchange best practices and raise capital,” he added. Shashikant Chaudhary said the Nagpur Entrepreneurship Mission plays a role of catalyst. Sunita Nanda, Mission Leader for Maharashtra at GAME proposed the vote of thanks.
