The Two Trees

In front of my house, there stood two trees,
Looked the same but different families.
One tall, other short, with lush leaves,
A matter of envy for other trees.
The short one was fighting for water,
Somehow making its leaves greener,
No care for birds who whispered by
Due to short height, struggled for sunlight.
The tree was meant to be tall,
But the gardener didn’t care at all
He trimmed it every season,
The stunted height for that reason.
Days went on and seasons changed,
The small tree had to face it all,
The weather made things desperate,
Big tree never gave a care.
Then one day everything changed
An ugly storm showed up in fall,
Big tree injured, took the toll
But the small one took things head on.
All those hard days and nights,
Had prepared the small tree to fight,
It always remained cautious and smart,
Building the strength to tackle it all,
The trees were of the same kind,
But brought up on different soils,
One took granted where it stood,
The other made it work
The best it could.
