Jabalpur Lokayukta Police caught a Sub-Engineer of Nagar Parishad Panagar red-handed while accepting a Rs 40,000 bribe from a contractor for clearing pending payments, on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Shubham Jain (30), Sub-Engineer, Nagar Parishad Panagar. Another accused, Abhilash Rajak, a daily-wage employee, has also been booked in connection with the case.
According to Lokayukta, the complainant, Rajendra Kumar Satnami (39) of Jabalpur, had secured a Rs 9.75 lakh contract during 2024–25 to supply insecticide materials to the municipal body’s Health Branch.
After completing the supply, he received two instalments of Rs 90,000 and Rs 64,066. However, the remaining payment and the release of his Rs 48,000 fixed deposit were withheld.
The accused officials demanded a Rs 50,000 bribe to process the pending dues.
After Rajendra Satnami lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta, officials verified the allegations. During verification, the accused agreed to accept Rs 40,000.
Acting on the complaint, the Lokayukta laid a trap on July 7 at the Nagar Parishad Panagar office and caught Shubham
Jain red-handed while accepting the bribe. Further action is being taken against both
accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and BNS.
The trap operation was led by Inspector Jitendra Yadav, Inspector Brij Mohan Narwariya, and the Jabalpur Lokayukta team.
