Gwarighat Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for possessing an illegal firearm and a live cartridge during a crackdown on illegal arms. The arrested has been identified as Akash alias Akku Barman (21), a resident of Gorakhpur area. According to Gwarighat police, they received a tipped off on the night of July 7 that a man carrying a pistol was moving near the steps of Ram Ghat. Acting on the information, a police team conducted a raid and spotted a suspect matching the description near the steps of Uma Ghat.

 

On noticing the police, the suspect attempted to hide but was quickly surrounded and apprehended. During a search, police recovered a country-made pistol from his waistband, with one live cartridge loaded in its magazine. Police seized the weapon and ammunition and registered a case against the accused under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. Investigators are questioning him to determine the source of the firearm and whether he has links to other criminal activities.
