MADAN Mahal police have arrested a husband-wife duo involved in the illegal liquor trade and seized 43 bottles and 800 quarters illicit liquor along with cash collected from its sale during a raid in Amanpur, Kali Math area. According to SHO of Madan Mahal Police Station Dheeraj Raj, police received a tip-off on the night of July 29 that Bantu Vishwakarma, a resident of Amanpur, Kalimath, was selling liquor illegally with the help of his wife from their residence. When the police team reached the spot, the house gate was found locked from inside. Despite repeated calls, the occupants initially refused to open the gate. The accused’s wife, Rajni Vishwakarma (43), claimed that her husband was not at home.

 

During the search, police heard movement on the rooftop and saw Bantu attempting to escape by jumping from the terrace. He was later taken into custody. A search of the house led to the seizure of 43 bottles of liquor, 818 quarter bottles (pouches) of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), and 387 quarter bottles of country liquor, along with Rs 6,150 in cash suspected to be proceeds from liquor sales. A case has been registered against Bantu Vishwakarma alias Gyaneshwar Vishwakarma (50) and Rajni Vishwakarma under Section 34(2) of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. Police said Bantu is a habitual offender with seven criminal cases already registered against him. The raid was led by SHO Dheeraj Raj, with assistance from ASI, Halkeram Bhalavi, Head Constables Baldev Vishwakarma, K K Shrivastava, Constables Balaram, Aditya and Women Constables Manjari and Vaishali.
