Gittikhadan Police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act against a man for circulating edited obscene photos and videos of his married relative on Instagram. The accused has been identified as Alim Mehboob Shaikh. The 31-year-old complainant lives in the Gittikhadan area with her husband and children. According to the complaint, on June 26, edited obscene photos and videos of the woman were sent to her husband’s WhatsApp number. She did not approach the police immediately as she had no evidence about who was behind it. On July 26, one of her relatives sent her screenshots of the accused’s Instagram status.

 

The screenshots allegedly showed edited obscene photos of the woman posted on the account. The complainant told police that the video appeared to have been created by editing footage taken from the bathroom of her house. She also claimed that a photograph showing her with the accused had been digitally fabricated. The woman said the posts had damaged her reputation and caused mental distress. She then lodged a complaint with Gittikhadan Police. Based on her complaint, police registered a case against Alim Mehboob Shaikh under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
