WIDESPREAD monsoon activity has swept across the State, bringing intense downpours to several divisions and prompting fresh weather warnings for August 10. Divisions including Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Jabalpur, and Shahdol recorded rainfall at most places, while the Rewa and Sagar divisions experienced widespread showers. Light to moderate rain was reported in parts of Gwalior and Chambal, whereas isolated pockets in Indore and Ujjain also witnessed rainfall. The heaviest rainfall in the State was recorded at Bajag in Dindori district at 150 mm, closely followed by Udaipura with 143 mm and Amarkantak with 130 mm. Heavy to very heavy rain was concentrated in Raisen, Narsinghpur, Dindori, Anuppur, Guna, Vidisha, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat districts. This vigorous spell of weather is being propelled by a lowpressure area anchored over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh, supported by an active monsoon trough running through Gwalior and upper-air cyclonic circulations. Temperature observations remained largely steady across the state, though maximum temperatures dropped noticeably below normal in the Chambal division, while minimum temperatures rose significantly above average in the Shahdol region.

 

State extremes saw Chitrakoot log the highest maximum temperature at 34.40 C, while Dhar and Khargone recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 19.20 C. In Bhopal, morning humidity reached a high 98%, with 17 mm of rainfall bringing the city’s seasonal total since June 1 to 573.1 mm. For today, the Meteorological Centre Bhopal forecasts widespread rainfall across central and western districts, including Bhopal, Rajgarh, Agar Malwa, Ujjain, Dewas, Sehore, Shivpuri, and Guna. A significant portion of eastern and northern Madhya Pradesh - covering the Chambal, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, and Jabalpur divisions - is expected to receive rainfall at many places, while southwestern districts like Jhabua, Dhar, Alirajpur, and Barwani will see rain at isolated to few places. The Met Centre has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h across Central and Western districts, including Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Dewas, and Harda. For the capital city of Bhopal, skies will remain generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light rain, average winds of 14–16 km/hr, and temperatures ranging between 230 C and 270 C, with current conditions expected to persist statewide over the next five days.
