THE monsoon has become active again in the region and light to moderate showers have been lashing Jabalpur since Saturday night. The rain has brought down temperatures and provided relief from humid weather. The weather system has also affected nearby districts. Dindori recorded heavy rain from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Around six inches of rainfall was reported during this period. The heavy rain led to a sharp rise in water levels in Narmada and local rivers. The situation affected connectivity between Jabalpur and Dindori. Water started flowing over the bridge on the JabalpurMandla route near Kharmar river, disrupting traffic.

 

The development also raised concerns for commuters travelling between the two districts. Spokesman of weather department said a low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand now lies over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh. An associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. The monsoon trough is also active and passes through Gwalior, northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh before extending towards the Bay of Bengal. An upper air cyclonic circulation over south Madhya Maharashtra is also continue. He said systems are supporting rainfall over Madhya Pradesh. The weather department has forecast moderate to heavy rain in Jabalpur and several nearby districts. With more rain expected, water levels in rivers and streams may rise further. Residents in low-lying areas and people travelling on routes near rivers have been advised to remain cautious. The city is likely to remain under cloudy skies with intermittent showers in the coming hours.
