Upgraded Raja Bhoj Airport gets four new direct flightsNO MORE DELHI LAYOVERSThe new flights will significantly cut travel time by up to 20 hours
Staff Reporter :
TRANSFORMING regional aviation, the State has significantly expanded its air connectivity while upgrading its primary
aviation hub, Raja Bhoj Airport
in Bhopal. Chief Minister Dr
Mohan Yadav and Union Civil
Aviation Minister Kinjarapu
Rammohan Naidu jointly
flagged off four new direct
domestic routes connecting
Bhopal to Rewa, Bhopal to
Patna, Rewa to Kolkata, and
Jabalpur to Kolkata. Financed
under the Madhya Pradesh Civil
Aviation Policy 2025 with State
Viability Gap Funding (VGF)
assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh
per round trip, these Alliance Air
services directly link key cities
in the Vindhya and
Mahakaushal regions to the
state capital and major eastern
metropolises.
Massive cut in travel
times across routes
THE non-stop services eliminate the hassle of lengthy train
journeys and indirect layovers
in Delhi, offering major time savings for passengers. On the
Bhopal–Rewa route, flight time
drops to approximately 1.5 hours
compared to 10 hours by train,
saving 8.5 hours. For travelers
heading between Bhopal and
Patna, the air journey takes just
2 hours instead of 22 hours by
rail, shaving off 20 hours.
Similarly, the Rewa–Kolkata service completes the trip in 2 hours
compared to 22 hours on the
tracks, while the
Jabalpur–Kolkata flight takes 2.5
hours instead of nearly a full day.
Slashed ticket prices
deliver budget-friendly
travel
PREVIOUSLY, travelers on these
routes had to book connecting
flights via Delhi at steep fares
ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs
10,000. The direct services significantly lower travel costs,
bringing ticket fares down into
an affordable range between Rs
3,200 and Rs 4,500.
Fares are
fixed at approximately Rs 3,500
for Bhopal–Rewa (with dynamic pricing starting around Rs
2,700 and capped at Rs 3,500),
while Rewa–Kolkata flights are
capped at Rs 3,200. Tickets for
both the Bhopal–Patna and
Jabalpur–Kolkata routes are
priced at Rs 4,500.
Structured flight
frequencies to serve
passengers
OPERATED by Alliance Air, the
new routes follow a regular
weekly schedule designed to
suit business commuters,
tourists, and families. The
Bhopal–Rewa service operates
four days a week on Tuesday,
Thursday, Saturday, and
Sunday. The Bhopal–Patna
route runs three days a week
on Monday, Wednesday, and
Sunday. Meanwhile, both the
Rewa–Kolkata and
Jabalpur–Kolkata flights operate three days a week on
Tuesday, Thursday, and
Saturday.
Raja Bhoj Airport’s
12-year modernisation
drive
THE flight expansion is supported by an extensive 12-year
infrastructure and operational
upgrade at Raja Bhoj Airport.
To handle rising passenger volumes, the terminal building
now features facial-biometric
DigiYatra entry, seat-integrated charging ports, powerequipped recliners, a dedicated children’s play area, renovated washrooms, and a
‘Flybrary’ open book-sharing
setup.
Airside safety features
have also received major
upgrades, including an
Instrument Landing System
(ILS) upgraded from CAT-I to
CAT-II, an Advanced Weather
Observation System (AWOS)
for low-visibility operations, a
new Air Traffic Control (ATC)
tower, an updated Airport
Rescue and Fire Fighting
(ARFF) station, and additional Passenger Boarding Bridges.
Boost for cargo,
sustainability, and
future growth
BEYOND passenger travel,
Bhopal’s airport has established a dedicated cargo terminal, an Aviation Security
Training Institute (ASTI), and
solar installations that earned
it Level 2 Carbon Accreditation
from Airports Council
International. These upgrades
contributed to top rankings in
AAI’s Customer Satisfaction
Surveys across 2023 and 2025,
as well as the Best Domestic
Airport award at the Airport 360
Expo 2026.
Looking ahead, Chief
Minister Dr Yadav announced
that a direct international flight
from Bhopal to Sharjah will
launch within two months,
accompanied by five new
approved airports across MP
- starting with Singrauli - and
a Rs 29,000 crore central outlay under the extended UDAN
scheme to develop 100 new
airports nationwide over the
next decade.
