Nagpur Rural Police has made a strong mark in crime control, road safety and use of technology. Murder cases have dropped by over 54 per cent and road accident deaths by 23 per cent in the first seven months of 2026. Drug seizures have also jumped sharply. Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule reviewed the performance of Nagpur Rural Police and festival security arrangements at Police Bhavan on Monday. He praised the force for its work and asked officers to maintain the same pace. Senior SP Dr Harssh A Poddar, Addl SP Anil Mhaske, SP Highway Lohit Matani and others were present. Festival security reviewed: Bawankule reviewed security plans for the upcoming festivals. The plans cover Independence Day, Janmashtami, Gopal-Kala, Pola, Ganesh Chaturthi, Anant Chaturdashi and Eid-e-Milad. He directed officers to make proper arrangements for law and order during the festive period. Nagpur Rural wins e-governance awards: Nagpur Rural is only police unit in Maharashtra to win awards under both the 100-day and 150-day e-governance reform programmes.

 

Bawankule praised the force for the achievement. He appreciated its transparent and people-friendly policing. Road deaths down 23%: Nagpur Rural remained among the top five districts in Maharashtra in reducing road accidents between January and July. Road accident deaths fell by 23 per cent. The total number of accidents also dropped by 18 per cent. Bawankule praised the new cluster-based accident reduction initiative launched in July. Rs 5 crore drugs seized: Nagpur Rural Police seized drugs worth around Rs 5 crore in the first six months of 2026. The value of seizures increased by around 1,000 per cent compared to the previous period. Police also acted against four drug gangs. Action was taken against some accused under the MPDA. Sharp fall in major crimes: Murder cases fell by 54.55 per cent in 2026 compared to 2025.

 

Theft cases dropped by 29 per cent. Assault cases fell by 25.33 per cent. Cases of outraging the modesty of women declined by 20 per cent. Police also reported a fall in attempted murder and kidnapping cases. MCOCA action against 53 accused: Nagpur Rural Police took action against 53 accused in 11 MCOCA proposals between January and July. Police also took 33 preventive actions against habitual offenders released from jail. Nagpur Rural was the first police unit in Maharashtra to use MCOCA against a gang involved in cattle smuggling and illegal transportation for slaughter. Bawankule praised the action against the organised gang. Cybercrime crackdown: Nagpur Rural Police has also stepped up action against cybercrime. The force is working with Maharashtra Cyber. Police have acted against bank account holders involved in illegal activities. They have also helped victims recover their money. Dial 112 response improves: The Dial 112 response time improved to 6 minutes and 5 seconds in July. Nagpur Rural Police has remained among the top 10 police units in the state for the past six months. GPS-based e-Beat patrolling: All police stations in the district are using the e-Beat system. GPS devices have been installed in police vehicles. Senior officers can track the location, route, stops and distance covered by patrol vehicles.
