NEW DELHI :
INDIA is emerging as a major
player in Artificial Intelligence
by combining large-scale public
investment, shared computing
facilities and a governance model that seeks to balance innovation with democratic safeguards,
a report has said.
“Artificial Intelligence is transforming economies, governance
and global influence, and India
is emerging as one of its most
influential players,” the report
from Gulf Today said. India AI
Mission, backed by Rs 10,372
crore drives India’s shift from
world’s software hub, to a global AI leader that combines innovation with inclusion, affordability and democratic values.
India AI Mission aims to build
computing capacity, fuel
research, support startups and
develop skills, creating shared
computing facilities with over
38,000 GPUs to avoid concentration of AI resources among
few corporations.
India’s talent pool and rapid
enterprise adoption are among
other strengths, the report said.
The country ranked third in
Stanford University’s 2025 Global
AI Vibrancy Ranking, behind the
United States and China.
The report said that 87 per cent
of Indian enterprises have adopted AI solutions and the market
is projected to reach $131.31 billion by 2032, making the country a major engine of global AI
growth. “During Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s engagements
in France and the G7 Summit, AI
featured prominently in discussions on innovation, digital infrastructure, research and responsible technology,” the report said.
The Bharat Innovates 2026
event grew its international influence by showcasing India’s capabilities in AI, fintech, healthcare,
space and deep technology.
The report also lauded India’s
distinct approach to AI governance by refraining from imposing restrictive regulations. The
government uses a “balanced
framework that promotes innovation while addressing concerns
over privacy, bias, misinformation, cybersecurity and digital
sovereignty.”
India’s Digital Public
Infrastr ucture—including
Aadhaar, UPI, DigiLocker and
BHASHINI—provides a strong
foundation for AI-driven public
services and are accepted as global models for scalable and affordable digital governance.
