NMC demolishes illegal slabs over nullah in Kachipura; restaurant manager booked for obstruction
Staff Reporter :
Acting strictly on the directives of the High Court dated August 4, 2026, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Enforcement Department launched a major anti-encroachment drive in the Kachipura and East Shankar Nagar areas of the Dharampeth Zone on Monday.
Central Encroachment Squad No 2, in a joint operation with the Dharampeth Zone squad, targeted illegal commercial constructions erected directly over a major stormwater drain (nullah). Using JCB excavators, the civic teams demolished unauthorised concrete slabs on the approach roads leading to Corner House Dhaba, Apna Dhaba, Shree Jagdish Saoji, and Sai Vatika, successfully freeing the water channel.
The demolition drive witnessed high drama when Vijay Talewar, the Manager of Sai Vatika, aggressively interfered with the on-duty civic officials.
He hurled abuses and attempted to forcefully obstruct the anti-encroachment action. NMC officials immediately summoned additional police reinforcements to the site. Talewar was detained, taken to the local police station, and a formal police case was registered against him for obstructing Government work. Following his removal, the demolition was successfully completed.
Meanwhile, parallel anti-encroachment operations were conducted across other congested parts of the city. In the Sitabuldi zone, joint Squads 3 and 5 cleared illegal street vendors and temporary stalls occupying the footpaths from Sitabuldi Main Road to Variety Square.
During the evening hours, Squad 2 launched a clearance drive targeting illegal food carts choking the footpaths along the VNIT and IT Park roads.
In Mahal area, Squads 1 and 4 executed a day-long drive clearing encroachments from Mahal Chowk, Badkas Chowk, KD Bagh Road, and the Kalyaneshwar Temple vicinity. The city-wide operations were conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner (Enforcement) Mangesh Khawale, Assistant Commissioner (Enforcement) Sanjay Kamble, and Dharampeth Zone Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar Meshram.
