TORRENTIALrains over the past 24 hours have thrown normal life out of gear across the State capital, causing severe waterlogging and uprooting trees in several key residential and commercial sectors. Low-lying areas and major thoroughfares bore the brunt of the deluge, with civic infrastructure struggling to keep pace with the massive inflow of water. Key stretches and neighbourhoods, including Ban Ganga Road, Minal Colony, Naya Basera, Arera Colony E-7 main road, Ganesh Nagar, Laxmi Vihar, Shiv Nagar, Chhiklod Road, Mahamai Ka Bagh, Dwarka Nagar, Rail Coach Factory, Chhola Kenchi, Old Kabadkhana, Bhopal Talkies, Bhanpur, Khejda Baramad, Bawadia Kalan, Mandakini Parisar, Danapani Road, Kailash Nagar, Ayodhya Bypass, and Vidya Nagar and many other areas, faced severe water accumulation that brought local traffic to a crawl and disrupted daily routines for thousands of residents.

 

Meanwhile, fallen trees blocked roads behind Jahangirabad Veterinary Hospital, Ishwar Nagar, Royal Market Kala Darwaza, Ward No. 71 near Ideal School, Arera Colony, Danapani Road, and VIP Road. District administration put on high alert: As weather warnings remain active, the district administration has stepped up monitoring and preventive safety measures across vulnerable zones. Bhopal Collector Priyank Mishra stated: “The district administration is on high alert in view of the continuous rainfall. Barricading and diversions are being put in place at submerged bridges and causeways to prevent accidents. Officials have been directed to install warning signboards and restrict public movement in waterlogged areas. Collector Mishra further stated, the municipal corporation has been instructed to ensure prompt drainage of water from affected locations, while all SDMs have been asked to visit vulnerable spots and monitor the situation personally. The administration is also reviewing the weather conditions for schools, and if heavy rainfall continues by morning, a decision to keep schools closed may be taken.
