THE construction of Ghamapur flyover has been pending for the past eight years, raising questions over the delay. A number of social organisations staged a protest on Tuesday near Ghamapur and submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav through the district administration. Senior office-bearers of the organisations said as many as two proposals for the flyover have been sent to the Government in the past eight years. A proposal estimated at around Rs 269 crore was prepared in 2019. Another proposal, with an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore was prepared in 2024. However, no decision has been taken so far. They said residents have been facing traffic problems for several years due to the absence of the flyover.

 

Ghamapur Chowk remains congested, causing inconvenience to commuters. In the memorandum they stated that around 1.50 lakh residents of Adhartal, Suhagi, Maharajpur and nearby areas face difficulties while travelling towards the city centre. Traffic jams are reported regularly on the Raddi Chowki and High Court routes. Traffic movement is also affected near the narrow culvert in Gohalpur, where widening work is currently underway. The social organisations questioned why such a major project has remained pending for eight years. They said the delay is adding to the daily problems of commuters. Those who participated in the protest were Dr P G Najpande, T K Raychatak, D K Singh, advocate Ved Prakash Adholia, Sushila Kanojia and several other representatives.
