Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar-Panvel area is set to get a dedicated Vidarbha Bhavan, with Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule directing officials to submit a proposal for two acres of land available at Kharghar. The initiative follows sustained efforts by BJP MLC Pravin Datke, who had raised the demand with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bawankule during the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature in 2026. Datke had sought Government allotment of two acres for the project and had also proposed that CSR funding be explored if required. At a meeting held on Wednesday, Bawankule instructed the Raigad Collector and the Managing Director of CIDCO to submit a proposal to the Government regarding the two-acre plot available at Kharghar. Datke participated in the meeting through video-conferencing, while MLA Vikrant Patil and Chitranjan Tembhekar of Vidarbha Seva Foundation were present.

The proposal envisages Vidarbha Bhavan as a common facility for people from Vidarbha residing in Navi Mumbai, Kharghar and Panvel. The centre is expected to provide space for social, cultural and educational activities, besides offering temporary facilities to people travelling from Vidarbha to Navi Mumbai. A large number of families from Vidarbha reside in the Kharghar-Panvel-Navi Mumbai belt, making the need for a common community facility particularly significant. The proposed Vidarbha Bhavan is expected to provide a platform for these families to organise programmes and maintain their social and cultural connect with the region. Bawankule said the proposed Vidarbha Bhavan would provide substantial benefits to people from Vidarbha living in Navi Mumbai and the surrounding areas.
