NAGPUR swimmers performed brilliantly and won many gold, silver and bronze medals in the Maharashtra State Masters Aquatic Championship that concluded at Balewadi, Pune recently. Ashwin Mokashi (age group 35–39) won a hat-trick of gold medals triumphing in 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. He also bagged a silver in the 200m freestyle. Aditya Kalele (40–44) won a silver in the 50m butterfly and a gold in the 100m butterfly. Kuldeep Sankhla (35–39) pocketed silver medals in the 200m and 50m backstroke whileViren Adsad (25–29) won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle. In the women’s category, Akshaya Jhanzhad (35–39) won silver medals in 50m and 100 m breaststroke while bronze medals in 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Anjali Shah won silver in 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

 

She took bronze medals in the medley and 4x50m relay. Jyotsna Jade (70–74) won silver in the 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and bagged bronze medals in IM and 4x50m relay. Nitisha Shambarkar (50–54) clinched a bronze in 100m backstroke, silver in the 200m IM and a bronze medal in the freestyle relay. Sushma Bajpai (60–64) won golds in 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly events and also bagged a silver in 100m freestyle. On the strength of their performance in this competition, all the medal winners will represent India at the 2nd Asian Masters Swimming Championships to be held in Bengaluru from October 3-10. Swimmers give the credit of their success to reputed swimming coaches Sanjay Batwe, Sagar Bopulkar and Himanshu Dubey. Members and core committee of Nagpur District Veterans Association, Hanuman Sports Academy and sports enthusiasts congratulated all the swimmers and wished them luck for the upcoming competition.
