FDA busts abortion medicine racket books doc

In a latest crackdown, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) busted an illegal racket that was trading in purchase and sale of medical abortion kits in city. Simultaneous action was also initiated in Solapur district. Together, the FDA nabbed eight persons at the two places, it also includes executives of on-line portal through which the product were being sold in violation of rules. Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits plus other medicines used in abortion and among those booked Director of portal IndiaMART, where sale of Clear Kit and Prega End, these are used in abortion were being sold openly. FDA acted on a tip off as to unauthorised storage and sale of the medicines.
 
A surprise inspection at Dr Sachin Marghade's Shree Sai Clinic in Vinoba Bhave Nagar, a large quantity of medicines used in abortion was found stored for unauthorised sale by the officials. A closer inspection of kits revealed that labels along with batch numbers on Prega End and Misopril kits used in abortion were deliberately removed or concealed. The FDA along with local police kept watch and laid a trap and arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in the supply chain. A search yielded about 50 MTP kits in their bags and police are trying to reach to supplier. Further unauthorised medicines, including Alprazolam and Sildenafil, worth Rs 45,649 were confiscated from the city clinic. Police registered a case against the doctor (Sachin Marghade) and three others at the Yashodhara Nagar police station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
