MUMBAI :
THE 106 activists who sacrificed
their lives during the movement
for the creation of Maharashtra
are set to receive a permanent
place of honour at Air India’s new
administrative building taken
over by the Maharashtra
Government, State Minister
Ashish Shelar said on Sunday.
CM Fadnavis has directed that
their names be prominently displayed at the building, Shelar
said in a statement. The 106
activists were killed during the
historic Samyukta Maharashtra
movement. Their sacrifice played
a key role in the formation of the
State.
Cultural Affairs Minister Shelar
had written to Fadnavis seeking
that their names be displayed
prominently on the facade of the
new building.
The Chief Minister
has now directed the State Chief
Secretary to take necessary action
on the proposal, Shelar said.
“The martyrs whose sacrifice
gave us Maharashtra must be
remembered by future generations. It is our responsibility to
honour their sacrifice on behalf
of the Government. Displaying
the names of all 106 martyrs on
the administrative building will
be a true tribute to them,” he
said. The Maharashtra
Government recently acquiredthe iconic Air India building, a
defining feature of the south
Mumbai skyline known for its
prime sea-facing location, for Rs
1,601 crore.
