After committing the crime, the accused dumped the body at the spot where it was later found. The accused also left a partly-consumed liquor bottle to make the death appear accidental
A 33-year-old man was murdered by his wife’s paramour in the MIDC area. The accused first made him drink alcohol. He was then hit on the forehead with an iron rod and suffocated with a cloth. Later, his body was dumped on the roadside and the scene was staged as an accident.
The deceased has been identified as Sudhir Mahendraprasad Dwivedi (33) of Gajanan Nagar, Hingna Road.
MIDC police have booked his wife Pooja Sudhir Dwivedi (22) and her lover Ashishkumar Nareshkumar Agnihotri (29). He has been arrested. According to police, Sudhir was found dead near an electric pole on Rajiv Nagar Main Road around 8.20 am on August 10. Police had initially registered an accidental death case following a complaint by his brother Sukhendrakumar Dwivedi.
However, the post-mortem report showed that Sudhir had died an unnatural death. During the investigation, police found that Pooja was in a relationship with Ashishkumar. Police said Sudhir and Ashishkumar worked at nearby private companies and had become friends. Ashishkumar often visited Sudhir’s house. Sudhir had even shared his suspicion about his wife’s affair with Ashishkumar, without knowing that he was allegedly involved with Pooja.
According to police, Pooja and Ashishkumar planned the murder. On August 9, Sudhir was made to consume a large amount of alcohol at home.
Ashishkumar hit him on the forehead with an iron rod and then suffocated him by pressing an odhni over his nose and mouth.
The duo transported the body and dumped it at the spot where it was later found. They also left a partly-consumed liquor
bottle to make the death appear accidental.
Police also found that the two had deactivated their old SIM cards and started using new ones after the incident. Following the investigation, PSI Sagar Gaikwad filed a complaint and PSI Akshay Gawande registered the murder case. Ashishkumar was produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody for four days. Further investigation is underway.
