A 55-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband after an argument over dinner in Ranala area. The accused assaulted her with a metal blowpipe and then smashed her head against the ground, police officials said. The incident took place in Shrikrishna Nagar area of Ranala village under the jurisdiction of New Kamptee police station. The deceased has been identified as Shyamavati Umashankar Vatti (55). Her husband, Umashankar Vatti (64), has been arrested in connection with the murder. According to police, the couple worked at an under-construction building and lived in a hut nearby.

 

Their grandson also stayed with them. On Sunday, the couple consumed alcohol. Later, Umashankar went to the market with his grandson. They returned home in the evening after buying some items. A dispute broke out between Umashankar and Shyamavati over dinner. The argument soon turned violent. According to the police investigation, Umashankar picked up a blowpipe. He attacked Shyamavati with it. The assault did not stop there. Police said Umashankar then grabbed her and smashed her head against the ground. Shyamavati suffered serious injuries and lost consciousness. Umashankar later informed his daughter about the incident. The injured woman was taken to hospital. Doctors examined her and declared her dead.

 

The matter initially appeared to be an accidental death. New Kamptee police registered an accidental death case and began checking the circumstances. During the inquiry, police learned that the couple’s grandson had told his mother what had happened. He reportedly told her that his grandfather had assaulted his grandmother. The daughter then approached the police and informed them about the assault. This changed the direction of the investigation. Police registered a murder case against Umashankar and arrested him.
