Acting on the directives from Mayor Neeta Thakre, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Health Department has mobilised special raid squads across all municipal zones to identify and prosecute bogus
and unauthorised medical practitioners
operating in the city.
The civic crackdown adheres to District Collectorate guidelines (Directive No 76/2025), establishing a multi-departmental committee comprising Zonal Medical Officers, Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) doctors, malaria inspectors, pharmacists, police personnel, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) representatives.
Civic squads will inspect clinics to identify individuals practicing modern medicine, homeopathy, ayurveda, unani, or dentistry without recognised degrees or mandatory statutory registrations with respective state councils (MMC, MHC, MCIM, and MDC).
Those administering unauthorised or unrecognised therapies will also face legal proceedings. Mayor Thakre instructed zonal officers to act swiftly on public complaints and enforce strict penalties against quacks endangering public health.
Citizens have been urged to report suspected bogus doctors via the state helpline 104 or the District Collectorate’s WhatsApp Chatbot at 8669494944.
