The death of Assistant Police Inspector (API) Dhnyaneshwar Jhol has raised questions over whether he deliberately ended his life or died in an accidental hanging. Jhol (35), was posted in the Applications and Protocol Department of the Police Commissionerate. He was found hanging at the police quarters in Gittikhadan around midnight on Saturday. Police officials who inspected the spot are examining the possibility of an accidental hanging. They are also checking whether someone deliberately hanged Jhol.

According to the preliminary information, a swing had been set up inside the quarter using a saari. One end of the sari was tied to a window and the other to a door. Jhol’s three-year-old twins were also at home. Police suspect that Jhol may have slipped while entering the bedroom after returning home. He may have fallen onto the swing which caused the saari to become entangled around his neck. Officials said his toes were reportedly touching the floor when he was found hanging. This has led investigators to examine whether the hanging could have occurred accidentally. At the same time, police are not ruling out the possibility that he was deliberately hanged. Jhol had gone with his family to the Swaminarayan temple on Saturday.

Later, he went to a party with friends and reportedly consumed liquor. He returned home late at night. Police are also looking into reports of an argument with his wife before the incident. His wife had gone into the bedroom with the children. When she returned, she found Jhol hanging with the saari. Family members and colleagues rushed him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. No suicide note was found. Police have preserved the evidence and are checking the circumstances leading to his death. Police are also examining Jhol’s personal and professional background. Jhol was a native of Jalna district. He had reportedly sought a transfer to Gadchiroli and wanted to serve there for around two years. His transfer request was rejected by the DGP office. The post-mortem report suggested hanging as the cause of death. “The exact circumstances are not clear yet. We are investigating all possible angles,” police officials said.
