NAGPUR shuttler Nehal Gosavi
entered twin finals but finished
as runners-up in both women’s
and mixed doubles at the YonexSunrise Maharashtra 2nd Senior
State Selection Badminton
Tournament that concluded
recently.
The five-day tournament was
hosted at Yeshwant College
Sports Complex, Behind Govt
Rest House, Devgiri, Nanded.
Nehal and her Thane partner
Anagha Karandikar had tough
run on their way to the women’s
doubles final.
The top seeded pair was test
in the quarter-finals and the
semi-finals both of which went
to the wire.
Nehal-Anagha managed to
beat Mansita Mohapatra and
Sara Salunke 15-7, 13-15, 15-12
and then in the last-four match,
they defeated Hrissha Dubey and
Purva Barve 15-11, 11-15, 15-5.
The duo ran out of luck in the
summit clash and went down
tamely to the combination of
Rucha Sawant and Siya Singh in
straight games 4-15, 10-15.
In the mixed doubles, Nehal
and Thane’s Sarvesh Yadav had
a smooth run till the final as they
did not drop a single game in the
four matches.
In Round of 32 match, third
seeds Nehal-Sarvesh got the better of Manav Sanjekar and
Anushka Vidhate 15-11, 15-10.
They were clinical in their win
over Krishna Jasuja and Nandini
Bhargava 15-4, 15-13 in Round
of 16.
In the quarter-final, NehalSarvesh beat Sanidhya Ekade and
Yutika Chavan 15-10, 15-8 and
in the semis, they beat Soham
Phatak and Aditi Gawade 15-8,
16-14.
In the final, Nehal and Anagha
were on opposite sides of the net
and the latter won the battle after
losing the first game.
Partnering Aman Farogh
Sanjay, Anagha defeated NehalSarvesh in three games 13-15,
15-11, 15-10.
