PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the country’s aviation sector has witnessed extraordinary progress, noting that the number of
airports has more than doubled from 74 to 166.
After inaugurating the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram near here, Modi said the project will serve as a “runway” for the development of Andhra Pradesh, especially the northern region.
Referring to the regional air connectivity scheme UDAN, he said it has provided people from small towns the opportunity to fly.
Highlighting the growth and development potential of Andhra, the Prime Minister said the state’s northern region can transform into a thriving coastal economic corridor.
Foundation stone was laid virtually for development projects worth Rs 18,000 crore, including those pertaining to road connectivity and energy security.

Modi laid the foundation stone for the Rs 460 crore ASIP Semiconductor Project at Visakhapatnam, being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd in partnership with APACT, Republic of Korea.
“It is Andhra Pradesh’s first semiconductor manufacturing facility approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, which will
manufacture around 96 million semiconductor chips annually and foster a robust ancillary ecosystem to support semiconductor manufacturing,” a PIB press release had said. Likewise, the PM laid the foundation stone for the Transmission System for the integration of Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) - Phase-I (4.5 GW), being implemented by POWERGRID through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) at an investment of about Rs 5,550 crore.
He also inaugurated the transmission system for Kurnool Wind Energy Zone and Solar Energy Zone (Andhra Pradesh) Part A & Part B, implemented at a cost of around Rs 3,550 crore, besides the transmission scheme for Solar Energy Zone in Ananthapuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), implemented by POWERGRID at a cost of over Rs 820 crore.
Bhogapuram Airport 'jewel' of north Andhra: CM Naidu: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hailed the newly inaugurated Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport here as the “jewel” of north Andhra, saying it will transform the region. The nearly Rs 5,000-crore airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier today. “Bhogapuram Airport is the jewel of North Andhra Bhogapuram Airport will change the face and future of North Andhra just as the Shamshabad Airport altered the trajectory of Telangana,” Naidu said at a public meeting.
