The moment Kiran Sanjay Atram opened a jewellery box, 26-year-old Shivani reportedly realised that something was terribly wrong. She was expecting to see jewellery. Instead, she allegedly found a knife inside the box. Police suspect that this was the moment when a meeting that appeared to be about marriage turned into a murder. According to the investigation, Kiran (45), along with Shivani, reached Hotel Stories behind Ajit Bakery in Manish Nagar around 2 pm on Tuesday. He had promised to marry her. He had bought two new sarees for her and spread flowers on the bed. Shivani had reportedly been pressuring Kiran to marry her. Police suspect that Kiran planned the meeting and used the promise of marriage to lure her to the hotel. Investigators believe Kiran opened the jewellery box in the room. Shivani was reportedly shocked on seeing the knife in it.

 

Police suspect that Kiran then attacked her with the same knife and slit her throat. Injured Shivani collapsed on the flower-covered bed. Kiran then used the same knife to injure himself. He suffered serious injuries but remained conscious. The couple was staying in Room No. 302 on the third floor. The incident came to light later in the evening when Kiran’s family and friends reached the hotel. Kiran’s wife had become suspicious after he left home in the morning. He had told her to take care of the children. She informed one of his friends. The friend and family members started searching for Kiran. They found his vehicle near Hotel Stories. Hotel staff told them that Kiran and Shivani were in Room 302. When there was no response from the room, they knocked repeatedly.

 

They broke open the door and were shocked. They saw Shivani lying on the bed in a pool of blood and Kiran with serious injuries. The knife was found in the room. The flowers spread on the bed and two new sarees on it. Police are now trying to establish whether Kiran had planned the attack and what happened immediately before it. The couple had a history of dispute. In 2023, Shivani’s family had approached Ajni Police and complained about Kiran’s association with her. Beltarodi Police and Crime Branch teams collected evidence. CCTV footage, hotel records, forensic evidence and the couple’s movements are being examined. Shivani’s body was sent for postmortem. Kiran is undergoing treatment in hospital. Police said the exact sequence of events will be confirmed after forensic examination and further investigation.
