TO EDUCATE the masses on drowning prevention, JD Sports Foundation & National Institute of Swimming, Nagpur successfully organised ‘DrowningPrevention Week’recently. Over 500 people participated directly and indirectly.Jayant Duble,chief organiser and international swimmer, stated that the coreobjective was,“No life should be lost to drowning.” Dr Jaiprakash Duble,President, JDSF,shared that WHO aims to reduce global drowning deaths by 35 per cent by 2035. “WHO has acknowledged and appreciated the work of JD Sports Foundation & National Institute of Swimming in Drowning Prevention and Water Safety Aw areness. Everybody mustfollowsafety norms at water tourism spots to avoid danger to lives,” Dr Duble stated.
 
Keyactivities during the week included —water safety quiz, educational sessions, and preand post knowledge tests to assess and improve awareness on drowning prevention for kids.For parents,citizens and swimmers,a CPR workshop in collaboration with the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Nagpur was held. Dr Shweta Bulle trained participants on CPR techniques and emergency response. Ankush Gawande, District Disaster Management Officer; Shiv Chhatrapati Awardee Girish Gadge,Arjuna and Dronacharya Award winner Vijay Munishwar,and Arun Bute,Vice-President, MaharashtraBoxing Association, were prominently present. Prajakta Duble conducted the programme while Prof Shyam Falke proposed avote of thanks.
