RAMEKAR sisters —Ruhi and Risha ruled the roost taking the first and second position in the 34th Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Runthat was held to markthe birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Chitnis Park Stadium, Mahal. The 3km race for girls under the age of 18 years was organised by Rajiv Sports Foundation in association with Nagpur District Athletics Association. Ruhi andRisha, along with PurvaBantemade aclean sweep for Nav-Maharashtra KirdaMandal (NMKM) taking the top three spots. Rita Tarare of JaiAthletics Club,Pranjali Urkude from Track Star Athletic Club,Antara Pimpalkhede and Tanmayee Pimpalkar (both NMKM), SwaraMutkure, Jagruti Kamble and Sanskruti Doye (all Bhagwati Girls High School), completed the top ten in that order. In this free-entryrace,the first 10 winners were awarded cash prizes worth Rs 12,000, merit certificates and medals. The first three winners were honoured with special medals. All the participants were also given participationcertificates.
 
Addressing the girls at the prizedistribution ceremony, Nagpur City Congress CommitteePresident Prafulla Gudhade Patil gaveinformation about the contribution of late Rajiv Gandhi in the development of thecountry. He speciallymentioned the important workdone by him in moderntechnology and computer revolution, Panchayat Raj system,women empowerment and getting the right to vote for the youth. The programme was moderated by Sandeep Madke while Hanif Waqar Ahmed Khan proposed avote of thanks. At theoutset, Gudhade Patil and Chief Convenor Sanjay Dudhe flagged-off the race. Gurudeo Nagrale (President, Nagpur District Athletics Association), Dr Sharad Suryawanshi (Director, Yashwantrao Chavan Open University,Nagpur), Motiram Mohadikar and Ravindra Khadse (Block President) were present as special guests on this occasion. Mukesh Sharma, Anil Bhore, RamchandraWani, Ravindra Tong and Vinod Panchghare were also present as guests. Co-organisers Gaurav Dalal, Rajkumar Ramteke,Kishore Uike,Chandu Athawale,Shyam Lanjewar,Prabhakar Chirvatkar,Chandrakant Guhe, Sanjay Gondhale,Prafulla Thakreand DevendraPaunikar worked hard to make the race a success. The organisers expressed special gratitude to Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Police Department and Traffic Department.
