RAIPUR :
A 24-YEAR-OLD man drowned
while attempting to swim
across the Blue Water site in Nakti
village under Mana Police
Station limits on Wednesday
evening. The State Disaster
Response Force (SDRF) launched
a search operation after being
alerted by the police.
The deceased, identified as
Adil Khan, a resident of
Moudhapara, had reportedly visited the site with three friends.
According to preliminary information, the group made a bet to
swim from one side of the water
body to the other.
Adil and one of his friends
entered the water and began
swimming. After covering some
distance, Adil reportedly moved
into a deeper section, lost control and drowned.
On receiving the information
about the incident, a team from
Mana police station reached the
spot and alerted the SDRF.
The
rescue team began searching for
the missing man, but the operation became difficult due to the
depth of the water and poor visibility after darkness set in. The
search was subsequently suspended for the night. The SDRF
team prepared to resume the
operation around 5.30 am, with police personnel continuing to assist in the search. Adil’s family was also informed
about the incident. The Blue Water site has reportedly witnessed drowning incidents in the past, with its sudden
changes in depth making the water body particularly hazardous. Water-filled mine pits can contain steep slopes, underwater depressions and sudden drops in depth, posing serious risks even to experienced swimmers. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and
are questioning Adil’s friends to establish how the accident
occurred. Further details are expected after the SDRF search
operation concludes.
