REWA :
FOLLOWING 12 hours of torrential rain, Rewa city has be
left inundated; the Beehar and
Bichhiya rivers are surging and
the administration is on high
alert.
Heavy rainfall since last night
has turned city roads into
ponds. Knee-deep water has
accumulated in low-lying areas
and major areas including
Nehru Nagar, Amahiya, Tarhati,
Sirmaur Chauraha, Saman
Bandh, Indira Nagar, Nirala
Nagar, Anand Nagar, Gulab
Nagar, Vibhishan Nagar,
Chanakyapuri, and the Sanjay
Gandhi Hospital complex,
completely disrupting daily life.
Further, clogged drains
caused water to enter streets
and homes in Nehru Nagar
and surrounding colonies.
The rising water levels in the
Tamas, Belan, and Naina rivers
have created a crisis for several villages, leading to flood-like
conditions.
In view of flood like situation,
district administration and
police are on high alert. Water
has flooded low-lying areas,
and 4 to 5 feet of water has
accumulated on the roads.
Since morning, revenue officials and police teams have
been patrolling affected areas,
and relief teams have been
deployed to flood-affected
zones. A control room remains
active round-the-clock, and
officials state that the situation
is being closely monitored.
Continuous rain has caused
waterlogging at several power
substations in Rewa; power
supply was cut off as a safety
precaution. Supply to urban
feeders was completely suspended late at night, though the
electricity department restored
it in the morning. Meanwhile,
the Chandrapur substation in
the Tarai region has been shut
down due to waterlogging,
resulting in power outages in
areas such as Chandrapur,
Jutiyan, Dhaka, and Manika.
Heavy overnight rain has left
several neighborhoods in Rewa
city completely submerged;
vehicles have been inundated
on the roads, and homes have
seen water levels rise to four
or five feet. On receiving this
information, Municipal
Corporation Mayor Ajay
Mishra ‘Baba’ inspected the
affected areas. Authorities
mobilised JCB machines to create drainage channels for flow
of rainwater. Collector Narendra Kumar
Suryavanshi and S P Dr Guru
Karan Singh are continuously
touring the area to assess the
situation.
Continuous rainfall has cut
off connectivity on several
routes from Rewa; on the RewaGud route near the Khemsagar
Temple turn, around six feet of
water is flowing over the road,
causing severe difficulties for
commuters and drivers.
The flood like situation has
forced residents to seek refuge
on their rooftops and upper
floors. The household items
have been submerged in the
floodwaters.
NDRF teams, alongside
police and SDERF units, have
been deployed to vulnerable
locations. Orders have been
issued to close all private and
government schools for the
day.
In the Tarai region of the
Teonthar assembly constituency, four major rivers are
flowing well above the danger
mark. In view of the worsening situation, a 30-member
NDRF team has arrived in Rewa
from Banaras to assist in handling any critical circumstances.
Providing details, Rewa
SDERF Inspector Vikas Pandey
stated, “There are over 40 locations in and around Rewa city
where flood-like conditions
have developed. Around 80
people, including a pregnant
woman and a newborn infant,
have been rescued so far.”
Four SDRF teams have been
deployed to various areas for
rescue operations.
