State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravindra Chavan came down heavily on the party leaders and office-bearers over slow progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and inadequate registration of voters for upcoming Graduate constituency elections during a review meeting of the BJP’s East Vidarbha in Nagpur. The meeting, attended by senior leaders, elected representatives, office-bearers and functionaries from East Vidarbha, focused largely on the party’s organisational preparedness and its ground-level performance in the region. Chavan reviewed functioning of the organisation in different constituencies and sought a detailed account of the progress made on key electoral and organisational assignments.

A major issue that came up during the meeting was the SIR exercise and the number of voters in Nagpur who have not been able to complete the process. Chavan reportedly expressed his displeasure over the situation and questioned the party machinery about the reasons behind the poor progress despite BJP having a well-established organisational network in the city. Sources said Chavan specifically took note of the performance of party workers in South-West Nagpur, the Assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as far as SIR is concerned. The review was not restricted to SIR. Chavan also took stock of the BJP’s preparations for the upcoming Graduate constituency elections, particularly the registration of eligible graduates as voters.

With only one month remaining for voter registration, Chavan directed party leaders and workers to launch an intensive registration drive and ensure that every eligible graduate sympathetic to the party’s cause is encouraged to complete the registration process. He reportedly stressed that the remaining period should be utilised effectively instead of waiting until the last moment. State President of BJP Chavan also emphasised the need to improve the BJP’s presence on social media. He reportedly observed that the party’s workers should be more visible on social media platforms while highlighting the organisation’s public-oriented activities. He asked leaders to ensure that the Government and party initiatives benefiting people, as well as programmes conducted by BJP workers at grassroot-level, reach a wider audience through social media. The emphasis was reportedly on making workers themselves active communicators of the party’s work rather than leaving the task only to senior leaders or official party handles.
