An 11-year-old girl was subjected to obscene chats and pressured to convert her religion through Instagram in Jaripatka Police Station area. The police have registered offence against three persons and arrested a 24-year-old youth from Chandrapur in the case. The accused have been identified Ankit Madari, Masum Ali Madari and holder of Instagram id “Soul of Music -Ankit” -- Ankit Sampat Devgade. According to police, the victim is a Class VI student. She created an Instagram account after learning about the platform from a friend.

 

The accused contacted her through Instagram accounts. Police said the accused had obscene conversations with the minor. They also discussed religious matters with her and pressured her to convert and marry him. The matter came to light when the girl’s mother checked her Instagram account. She found obscene chats and recordings of video calls. According to the complaint, recordings of the video calls were uploaded and circulated on Instagram. Obscene messages and reels also were sent to the girl from another Instagram account.

 

 

Police also found that a fake Instagram account had been created in the girl’s name. Religious posts were reportedly uploaded through the account. After learning about the incident, the girl’s mother approached the Jaripatka Police and lodged a complaint. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. The accused has been arrested. Police are examining the Instagram accounts, chats, video recordings and other digital evidence. Further investigation is underway.
