IN A major crackdown targeted at ensuring food quality ahead of the upcoming festive season, the Food Safety Department conducted an inspection at Sai Baba Trading on Sehore Road, Bhopal, seizing 114 kilograms of suspect sweets. The seized inventory, estimated at a market value of Rs 22,800, was impounded during a comprehensive drive being carried out across Bhopal district to monitor sweets and essential food products. The seized stock includes 27 kg of Nandi Sweet Halwa, 27 kg of Krishna Halwa, 30 kg of Gopal Sweets Barfi, and 30 kg of Krishna Delicious Sweet.

 

Food safety officers collected representative samples of the seized items under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and dispatched them to the state food testing laboratory for detailed chemical analysis. During the inspection, officials noted that packaging for ‘Krishna Delicious Sweet’ listed ingredients including milk solids, sugar, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (vanaspati), and refined palmolein oil. Departmental officials stated that further legal action will be initiated against the manufacturer and distributor once the official laboratory test reports arrive confirming whether the products meet safety and quality standards.
