Panic spread in Shravan Nagar after two unidentified men fired a shot at the house of Congress corporator Shubham Sheshrao Motghare in the early hours
of Tuesday.
The incident took place around 12.45 am at Motghare’s residence behind Swaminarayan Temple. Motghare (30), represents Ward 26 of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
According to the police, Motghare and his family were asleep when the two men arrived on a two-wheeler. The pillion rider allegedly fired a shot towards the glass of the first-floor gallery of the house.
The two then fled the spot on the same vehicle.
The bullet damaged the gallery glass. However, no one was injured in the incident.
Bhandewadi Police were alerted soon after the firing incident. A team rushed to the spot and inspected the house. Police are now checking CCTV camera footage from the area to identify the attackers and trace their route.
Sources said the accused fled the spot from the wrong side of the road. The motive behind the firing is yet to be established. Police are examining several possibilities, including past enmity, threats and a dispute linked to land dealings.
Motghare and his father are reportedly involved in land-related dealings.
Police are checking whether the shooting has any connection with such activities. Officials, however, have not yet confirmed any specific motive.
The latest incident has also raised questions over an accident in which Motghare got injured two months ago. On July 16, his car met with an accident while he was returning from Madhya Pradesh. Motghare sustained injuries in the accident.
Police are now checking whether the earlier accident and the latest firing are connected. They are also examining whether the accident could have been deliberate.
