SUFFERING from a life-threatening blood disorder Beta Thalassemia Major, nine-year-old Rihan Anil Dumbhare, a resident of Mauda is preparing for a crucial stem-cell transplant at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, after his family secured Rs 15 lakh in financial assistance towards his treatment. However, with a prolonged stay in Vellore ahead, the family is still short of Rs 3-3.5 lakh needed for accommodation, food and other expenses. An allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplant (PBSCT) is the best option.

CMC has estimated the transplant cost at around Rs 16 lakh. The family secured Rs 10 lakh from Coal India, Rs 3 lakh from Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 2 lakh from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
