The Superintendent of Police (Nagpur Rural), Dr Harssh A Poddar has suspended a police constable who was serving as the bodyguard of Maharashtra Minister of State Advocate Ashish Jaiswal. The constable has also been booked along with a woman associate for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman on the promise of marriage and later threatening her. The accused has been identified as Ajay Sadashiv Salame (38), a resident of Chhoria Layout in Ramtek. He had met the woman, a resident of Bhagat Singh Ward in Nagpur city, a few months ago. According to the complaint, Salame developed a physical relationship with the woman after promising to marry her. She later stopped communicating with him after learning that he was involved with another woman.

The complaint states that Salame became angry over this and allegedly threatened to kill her. He also warned that her photographs and video clips would be made viral. The woman further alleged that another woman close to Salame threatened to ruin the lives of her children. The victim initially approached Ramtek Police Station, but alleged that her complaint was not registered. She later approached SP Dr Poddar. Interestingly, Salame’s wife accompanied the victim to the SP’s office. They narrated the entire incident and sought action. SP Dr Poddar then directed Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ramesh Barkate and Ramtek Police Inspector Rajeshkumar Thorat to register a case.

Following the directions, Ramtek police registered a case against Salame and an unidentified woman under Sections 69, 351(2) and 3(5) of the BNS. WAPI Swati Yeole is investigating the case under the supervision of Inspector Thorat. Meanwhile, Dr SP Poddar issued an order on August 28 suspending Salame from service. Police said Salame's wife had also complained that he frequently intimidated her by displaying his service revolver. Salame, being a bodyguard, was issued the weapon as part of his duty. Salame had not been arrested till the filing of this report.
