IN A major crackdown on criminals and anti-social elements, Jabalpur Police apprehended 223 absconding warrantees and arrested 22 persons involved in illegal liquor trade during a latenight combing operation conducted across the district. The operation was carried out on the directions of Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay from 9 pm on August 29 to 2 am on August 30. The drive was aimed at strengthening law and order, preventing crimes and apprehending absconding accused and persons wanted in long-pending cases. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional SP City Ayush Jakhar, Additional SP Crime Jitendra Singh, Additional SP Zone-2 Pallavi Shukla, Additional SP Zone-4 Anjana Tiwari, Additional SP Headquarters Suryakant Sharma and Additional SP Traffic Akhilesh Tiwari, along with all City Superintendents of Police, Deputy SPs and SDOPs.

 

Teams comprising police officers and personnel from police stations across the city and rural areas were formed for the operation. Station house officers led several teams, while other teams were headed by subinspectors and assistant sub-inspectors. During the combing operation, police arrested 99 persons against non-bailable warrants, executed 69 arrest warrants and served 55 bailable warrants. Many of those arrested had been evading the police for several years. They are being produced before the court. As part of the crackdown on illegal liquor, police raided suspected locations and arrested 22 persons. A total of 16 litres of illicit country-made liquor and 416 pouches/bottles of country-made and foreign liquor were seized. Police also arrested five persons for carrying knives illegally and seized five knives from them. The combing operation also focused on monitoring known criminals and checking suspicious movement late at night. Police teams questioned people travelling at unusual hours and conducted checks of suspicious persons and vehicles at railway stations, bus stands and lodges.
