Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has formally launched the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Chair to promote research, academic programmes and outreach activities based on the social reformer's ideals.
Dr Manali Kshirsagar, Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the Chair on July 27 at the Mahatma Gandhi Vichardhara Department premises in the
Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar
campus near LAD Square.
Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
During a meeting of the advisory board, the Vice-Chancellor outlined plans to introduce short-term courses, internships, competitive examination coaching and expert lectures under the Chair. She also directed that the centre be equipped with adequate infrastructure, furniture and library resources, and instructed officials to expedite staff appointments.
A tree plantation drive was also held on the department premises. Several university officials, including Dr Mangala Hirwade, Dr Sujit Metre, Dinesh Sheram, Dr Sameet Mahore, Dr Vijay Tangde, Dr Shailendra Lende and Prof Pramod Watkar, attended the programme.
