PASSENGERS travelling on Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses operating in Madhya Pradesh will have to pay revised fares from August 7, following directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh Government.
The revised fare structure was notified in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette on August 5.
The maximum permissible fare for ordinary buses has been fixed at Rs 2 per passenger per kilometre, subject to a minimum fare of Rs 10. The maximum fare can be increased by 10 per cent for night buses, 25 per cent for Deluxe non-AC buses, 40 per cent for Sleeper services, 50 per cent for Deluxe AC buses and 75 per cent for Super Luxury Coach AC services. The notification specifies maximum permissible fares rather than a mandatory uniform increase across all services. It also states that no additional night charge will be levied on Deluxe non-AC, Sleeper, Deluxe AC and Super Luxury Coach services. No additional charge is permitted for express bus services. Bus classification will be governed by directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh Transport Commissioner.
