THE Sagar district administration on Thursday demolished five illegal structures allegedly built on Government land by accused in the Banda illicit liquor case. The action followed Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s visit to Sagar and his directions for strict action against those responsible for deaths linked to suspected poisonous liquor. Police and civic teams conduct drive: A joint team of Banda Municipal Council and police demolished three structures belonging to Manish Lodhi, and one each linked to Chandrabhan Rajput and Ashish Sahu. The demolished properties included houses, permanent structures and warehouses. Accused allegedly occupied Government land: According to the administration, the three accused had allegedly occupied Government land and constructed properties there over a long period. Officials also said the premises were allegedly being used for the illegal liquor trade. Notices seeking explanations were served 24 hours before the demolition, but no response was received within the stipulated period.

 

CM orders judicial inquiry: Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has ordered a judicial inquiry into the Sagar illicit liquor deaths and directed officials to ensure strict action against all those responsible. Dilip Kumar has taken charge as Sagar divisional commissioner, while Irshad Wali has been appointed the new IG of Sagar Range. The reported death toll in the Banda-Shahgarh area has reached 28, while the administration has officially confirmed 15 deaths. Several people are undergoing treatment. Police have arrested 16 of the 33 accused and announced rewards for 17 absconding accused. Government announces zero-tolerance policy: The Chief Minister has directed officials to intensify checks in Sagar and adjoining areas, seize illegal liquor and act against mafias and encroachments. He also ordered a state-wide de-addiction campaign and stressed that action must remain strict, transparent and focused on establishing accountability
