Ending an administrative standstill spanning nearly three decades, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Education Department has recruited 19 permanent teachers for the municipal secondary school through the State’s Pavitra Portal, with three appointments currently in the pipeline. Speaking with ‘The Hitavada’, Santoshdevi Laddha, Chairperson of NMC Education Committee said, “Teacher dossiers and verification credentials had remained stalled since 1997, marking this transparent recruitment drive as the civic body’s first major permanent hiring in 29 years.

 

The fresh appointments specifically cater to classes 9 and 10, while document processing for classes 6 through 8 is underway to address chronic faculty shortages across the civic body’s 113 municipal schools serving over 14,000 students.” “The whole education department has worked hard for the uploading of the documents of the former teachers, also the department is also working to upload the documents of teachers of other classes,” Laddha added. Chairperson Laddha informed that the Mayor Neeta Thakre will distribute the appointment letters to the newly recruited teachers on the third week of September.

 

 

In an effort to elevate classroom standards to match private institutions, the department has comprehensively overhauled its academic curriculum across all primary and secondary schools. For early childhood and primary sections, traditional memorisation has been replaced with modern interactive syllabus featuring rhymes, drawing, and integrated workbooks containing practice worksheets environmental studies (EVS) and general knowledge have been introduced from foundational levels. For students from classes 5 to 10, comprehensive english grammar books have been incorporated to build core language proficiency, complementing the civic body’s expansion of English-medium and semi-English schooling setups in areas such as Bastarwari and Dabha.

 

 

Addressing technological infrastructure deficits in older, conventional school buildings lacking dedicated computer laboratories, the education department has deployed five to seven fully equipped mobile computer vans funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Operating as mobile IT laboratories, each van houses 15 modern computer workstations and visits assigned civic schools regularly for three-hour instructional blocks. Under this rotating schedule, students undergo structured three-month training modules culminating in MS-CIT certifications, enabling an estimated four schools to achieve comprehensive digital literacy annually per vehicle. Alongside academic overhauls, the civic administration has upgraded its school uniform policy, augmenting state subsidies to provide sports tracksuits and t-shirts, with vendor disbursements routed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) SNS-SPARSH portal. Education department believes that these progressive interventions mark a positive turnaround for municipal education in city.
