UNION Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be on one-day visit to Chhattisgarh on Friday. During his visit, he will participate in programmes organised by the Rural Development Department at Jetha village of Sakti district. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, other cabinet ministers and others will attend the programme. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will address a ‘Grih Pravesh’ ceremony to be held under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) at Jetha village in Sakti district. During the event, house keys will be handed over to the scheme’s beneficiaries. Additionally, Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend a conference of Panchayat officebearers, where discussions will be held on topics related to rural development and the effective implementation of schemes at the Panchayat level.
 
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, a large number of rural families in Chhattisgarh have been provided with ‘pucca’ houses over the past decade. A target of 2,513,351 housing units was set starting from the 2014-15 financial year, out of which 2,453,466 units have been sanctioned. Of these, the construction of 2,053,927 houses has been completed. The Central Government has spent Rs 16,853.73 crore on housing construction under the scheme so far. Meanwhile, a total of Rs 25,504.76 crore has been spent on the scheme when combining the contributions from both the Central and State governments. The Union Minister will also participate in the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan.
