The 100 MW capacity solar power project developed by Maharashtra State Power Generation Co Ltd (MAHAGENCO) at Udapur Taluka Narkhed, District Nagpur was successfully commissioned on September 11, 2026 by the Chairman and Managing Director of MAHAGENCO, Radhakrishnan B. The electricity generated by this solar power project, set up on 410 acres of land, was connected to the grid through a 13 km long double circuit channel on the Varud Kalmeshwar 220 KV channel.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the construction process of Udapur Solar Power Project was smoothly implemented by MAHAGENCO.
Under the guidance of Additional Chief Secretary, Power, Government of Maharashtra, Abha Shukla, and under the direction of Chairman and Managing Director of MAHAGENCO Radhakrishnan B. and under the supervision of Director (Operations) Abhay Harne, Director (Projects) Rajesh Patil, the said project has been developed by MAHAGENCO and thus reliable green power supply will be achieved to the people of Maharashtra and this project will provide employment
generation.
The Maharashtra Government has set a target of generating 52% of its power from non-conventional energy sources by 2030, and in line with this, MAHAGENCO has formulated Vision 2035.
In this, the installed capacity of MAHAGENCO is targeted to be 32+ GW, out of which a target of setting up 8 GW of solar power projects by 2030 and 12 GW of installed capacity by 2035 has been set. Along with this, plans have been made to set up state-of-the-art projects like solar, Udanchan Hydropower Project, Wind-Solar Hybrid Project, Green Hydrogen and Battery Storage System for renewable energy generation. One of the important milestones is the Udapur Solar Power Project in Nagpur district with an installed capacity of 100 MW. With the implementation of this solar power project, Mahanimti's installed solar power capacity has increased to 1.4+ GW. M/s. K.P.I.
Green Energy Ltd was appointed as the solar project developer through a tender process to develop the project by MAHAGENCO.
On this occasion, Rajesh Patil, Director (Project), Vivek Rokade, Executive Director (Project), Girish Kumarwar, Executive Director (Solar, N.U.P.), Vilas Motghare, Executive Director (Operation) and Satish Ane, Chief Engineer were present. Negi, Samaz Hussain, Nitish Nakhle of M.K.P.I. Green Energy Ltd as well as Mahipal Reddy, Saurabh Mittal and engineers and employees of MAHAGENCO were present.
