What was supposed to be a quick ride for two youths, turned into a fatal mishap on Sadar flyover late Friday night. A 22-year-old man and his 15-year-old brother-in-law were killed after their sports bike went out of control and crashed on the flyover. The impact was so violent that the two riders were dragged along the road for nearly 25 feet, police officials said. The deceased were identified as Sameer Mohammad Shakir Shaikh (22) and Aifaz Mohammad Zahid Ansari (15), both residents of Shivaji Nagar in Yashodhara Nagar. According to police, Sameer had taken his brother-in-law’s sports bike (MH-40/BM-3198) for a ride. The two reached Sadar and later started their return journey towards Yashodhara Nagar. They were travelling from LIC Square towards Yashodhara Nagar.

 

Near the Gurudwara on the flyover, Sameer lost control of the speeding bike. The bike suddenly swerved and crashed into the safety wall. The sound of the impact shocked commuters on the road. Both riders were thrown onto the road. “They suffered severe injuries in the crash. The impact was very strong as they were dragged for around 25 feet,” police said. A patrolling Beat Marshal rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The two youths were found seriously injured. The marshal checked their mobile phones and contacted their families. The injured youths were immediately rushed to Mayo Hospital. But the journey to save them ended in a heartbreak. At the hospital, doctors examined both youths and declared them dead. Police said the exact speed of the motorcycle would be established during the investigation. Sadar Police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is underway.
