NAGPUR’S young runner Samit Ravindra Tong achieved success in the Indian Athletics 3000m Steeplechase Championship organised by Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Tong finished a creditable fifth in the competition with a timing of 9.10.61 seconds “The success achieved by Samit, who directly participated in the senior men’s category is a great achievement in the athletics field of Nagpur,” said Nagpur District Athletics Association Secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi.

 

Tong was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a certificate. He was selected for the competition on the basis of his silver medal in the 3000 metre steeplechase at the nationals in 2025. Tong is an athlete of Track Star Athletics Club and practices under the guidance of Ravindra Tong and Umesh Naidu, who are working in the police force. District Association President Gurudeo Nagarale, Vice-President Nagesh Sahare, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Ramchandra Wani, Archana Kottewar, Dr Vivekanand Singh, Jitendra Ghordadekar and others congratulated Tong.
