Four youths from Nagpur had a close shave after they got trapped in the middle of a river near a waterfall at Kukdikhapa in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. The youths had gone to Kukdikhapa for a picnic and to enjoy the waterfall. They were standing on rocks near the waterfall when the water level suddenly rose. The surge was caused by heavy rain in nearby areas. The youths were unable to move to safety as the water current became strong. A video showing the four youths trapped near the waterfall went viral on social media. After being alerted, officials from the Umranala police outpost rushed to the spot.

 

The police found that the rescue operation was difficult due to the strong water current and the location of the youths. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was then called for help. SDRF personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Using ropes, the rescuers carefully reached the stranded youths. The SDRF personnel reportedly descended around 150 feet to reach them. The youths were then rescued one by one and brought to safety. The rescued youths have been identified as Shyam Borkar (25), Atharva Doke (22), Manish Uikey (25) and Satish Bawne (23). All four are residents of Nagpur. According to Ganesh Kumar Dhrwe of the SDRF, the rescue operation was challenging and lasted for around one-and-a-half hours.
