ABVP demands to restore students’ unionelection across all varsities, colleges in MP
Staff Reporter :
THE Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi
Parishad (ABVP) Mahakaushal
Prant submitted a memorandum
addressed to the Higher Education
Minister through the Collector,
Jabalpur, demanding immediate
restoration of students’ union elections across all universities and
colleges in Madhya Pradesh and
prompt announcement of an official election schedule.
The students’ organisation
highlighted that students union
elections serve as a vital foundation for any democratic system, enabling elected representatives to address student issues
effectively. ABVP noted that these
elections foster democratic values, leadership capabilities,
social consciousness, communication and organisational skills
among the youth.
It may be mentioned that
Students union elections in
Madhya Pradesh have remained
suspended since 2017, depriving
millions of higher education students of their right to democratic
representation for nearly nine
years.
Following recent directives issued by MP High Court
regarding the resumption of
campus elections, the state government had assured that the
election process would take
place in September. However,
the absence of an official notification or detailed schedule to
date has created confusion and
disappointment among the student body. Suvrat Bazhal, Prant
Mantri, BVP Mahakaushal Prant,
stated, “Students union elections are not merely a process
to secure leadership positions,
they offer students a platform to
understand democratic frameworks, express their views and
fulfill their responsibilities
toward society and the nation.
The Government must act in
accordance with the High Court’s
directions and publish a transparent, time-bound election
schedule to resolve the ongoing
uncertainty among students.”
Aryan Punj, ABVP City
Secretary expressed that the
organisation will continuously raise its voice through democratic and constitutional
means until this long-standing
and legitimate demand of the
student community is fulfilled.
